Albany Pottery Group members are preparing for their latest themed exhibition of ceramic works which will be on display at the Vancouver Arts Centre during the first week of May.

After a successful show in the Verandah Gallery last year where the theme of ‘Surface’ stimulated literal and playful clay interpretations of the word, ‘Totem’ has also been set to inspire participants for a wide range of ceramic representations.

Many traditional understandings of totem relate to an object or an emblem that often has spiritual or ancestral significance to a group or individual. However, Albany Pottery Group are encouraging their potters to create a contemporary interpretation of an object or idea that has personal significance and which also reflects their particular clay-working style.
