The City of Albany's Creative Support Grants provide the opportunity for individual artists, (including but not limited to visual arts, design, writing, performance, music, film and photography) art groups, community groups and community organisations to apply for support to assist with small scale creative initiatives.

CITY OF ALBANY ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM 2027

The City of Albany Artist in Residence (AIR) program is managed by the Arts and Culture team. Self-contained accommodation is provided at Mary Thomson House next to the Vancouver Arts Centre 1km form the Albany CBD. We have seven residency timeframes available in 2027. 

 The AIR program provides visiting artists with the opportunity to:

  • develop their practice through self-directed creative projects
  • to share skills and exchange knowledge with the Albany creative community
  • to develop professional networks within the region
  • to contribute to wider community engagement with the arts
  • to discover and share the rich Great Southern heritage and environment
  • to contribute to raising the profile of Albany as a creative city.

GREAT SOUTHERN ART AWARD 2026

Artists are invited to submit entries for the upcoming Great Southern Art Award. This exhibition will be presented over both floors of the Albany Town Hall during the 2026 Easter period. Celebrating creativity, innovation, and artistic excellence within our region, this award offers a professional platform for artists to showcase their talent to a wider audience. The award is open to established, emerging and young artists who reside in the Great Southern. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or just beginning your creative journey, we welcome diverse perspectives and practices in all visual art forms.

Applications will be open from 12 January 2026 at https://artsandculture.albany.wa.gov.au/exhibitions-events/great-southern-art-award

Entries close 5pm, 6 March or whenever the maximum capacity of 120 entries is reached; whichever occurs sooner. This will be broken down into the first 80 in the 18 and over age group and the first 40 for the under 18 age group.

There are over $10,000 worth of prizes with multiple award categories for both youth and adults.

LIVE @ THE TOWN HALL CALLOUT FOR PERFORMERS 2026-2027

The ongoing Live @ the Town Hall series is programmed by the City of Albany to support and showcase a thriving local original live music scene.


DISPLAY YOUR ART AT THE VAC - Art on the Wall Project

The Vancouver Arts Centre Art on the Walls project has expanded and is now open to all visual artists in the Great Southern Community aged 18 years and over. 

The Art on the Walls project aims to support and promote the work of Great Southern artists both emerging and established by giving them the opportunity to display their work in the Arts Centre and assist them with artwork sales (should they wish to list their work for sale).

2D and 3D works are both welcomed.

Through its Supported Workshop Program, the Vancouver Arts Centre offers assistance to community groups, professional community arts workers and professional artists (including but not limited to visual arts, dance, music, film, media arts, literature etc.) to facilitate sustainable and autonomous workshop program initiatives and support the continued growth and development of arts and culture within the Great Southern Region.

BECOME A TUTOR AT THE VANCOUVER ARTS CENTRE

The Vancouver Arts Centre is committed to activating the centre by offering a range of creative workshops and classes for children and adults including regular term classes, school holiday workshops and a range of one-off day and weekend workshops throughout the year. Applications are open year-round to artists with experience in delivering group classes offering instruction and tuition in various art techniques using a wide range of mediums.

vANCOUVER ARTS CENTRE STUDIO HIRE

Applications are open throughout the year for Vancouver Arts Centre & Mary Thomson House Artist Studio Hire.

The VAC and MTH have 10 artist studios available for hire to the local arts community. Studios are provided to enable artists the opportunity to develop their artistic practice and professional career in a secure and stable environment. The VAC supports artists at any stage of their career and encourages an intergenerational mix of applications.
