The sights and sounds of the Maritime Festival will be on display at the Albany Town Hall through the month of July with Songs of the Sea, Maritime Movies and a local album launch to ravish the senses.
Saturdays in July are reserved for the sounds of WA artists as part of a series called Songs of the Sea which was a hit with concertgoers in 2022 and a welcome return for the 2023 festival.
The first instalment on 1 July will feature the country/blues-infused rock music of Tom Fisher and the Layabouts followed by the Late Night Organ Doners with their monster grooves and soulful vibes.
Prepare for an evening of blue-inspired, feel good music at the second session on 8 July when The Chairmen of the Fret Board take their trio of seasoned blues musicians to the stage, followed by Martin Lee Cropper who will conclude the night with a body of authentic but original Delta Blues.
Fremantle singer-songwriter Boox Kid delivers a unique electro-pop performance at the third event on 15 July before Drea takes to the stage with her vulnerable ballads and confident party anthems.
Closing out Songs of the Sea on 29 July will be the enchanting tones of Stacey Ann, with her honey-like harmonies before the Steve Hensby Band bring their 9-piece energetic ensemble to the stage.
Albany’s Shantymen are also at the Town Hall on 22 July for the launch of their latest foot stomping musical merriment album titled Live at the Town Hall playing homage to the merchant sailors of old.
Executive Director Community Services Nathan Watson said Songs of the Sea is bigger and better.
“Albany love their live music, especially when it’s local to WA and offers that homegrown atmosphere in the fantastic surrounds of our iconic Albany Town Hall,” he said.
“This year we have upped the anti by bringing in more artists, more often and making Songs of the Sea a regular occurrence on the Maritime Festival calendar.”
Maritime festivities at the Albany Town Hall don’t end there, with two Maritime Movie screenings taking place every Thursday in July – an early session for the kids and a later session for the big kids.
Audiences are invited to embark on a journey to reclaim the Black Pearl with Captain Jack Sparrow, dance along with happy feet and swim with the creatures of the sea.
“There is nothing better than a good movie on a cold winters evening which is exactly what Maritime Movies offers locals and visitors to the region all month.” Mr Watson said.
