Albany Art Prize
The Albany Art Prize was a national painting prize supported by the Jack Family Charitable Trust that ran from 2008 to 2018. As a painting prize it put Albany on the national map, and at the time was the most lucrative regional art prize in the country.
The major prize was $25,000 with the offer of $2,500 to support the artist to undertake a studio residency at the Vancouver Arts Centre. There was also a $2,500 commendation award and a $2,500 People’s Choice award. This was an acquisitive prize, with the winning painting being acquired into the COA art collection. The result was a major injection of national contemporary artworks to the collection.
