Visitors to Albany Town Hall will soon be able to explore a range of artwork that depicts Captain James Cook’s early life.

The artworks by Frank Pash include oil paintings, watercolours and drawings and all explore aspects of Captain James Cook’s voyages and eventual death in Hawaii.

Frank Pash’s work formed the illustrations for Charles Amery’s book James Cook RN. The book contained over 80 of Frank’s paintings and drawings including works that were given to the people of Albany.

In 2008, Bill Olde bequeathed 48 of Frank Pash’s artworks done between the years of 1920 and 1990 to the City of Albany art collection.

Manager Arts and Culture Paul Nielsen said the work of Frank Pash is a historical and cultural experience for visitors.

“Frank’s life has been driven by his passion for art with Frank studying at Leeds College of Art then London’s Royal College of the Arts,” he said.

“Now his painting, The Parmelia - Oil on board, 1978, is represented in the collection of Parliament House in Perth.

“It is an honour to have 48 of Frank Pash’s artwork within our City of Albany art collection and a privilege to have them on display at the Town Hall.”

The work of Frank Pash as well as the Charles Amery book James Cook RN will be on display at Albany Town Hall from May 25 to June 10.
