Tethys

MODEL Eve Young

ARTIST STATEMENT Named after Tethys the Titan goddess of water, this artwork is an exploration of the damage caused to the oceans by plastic waste. Inspired by ship figureheads that were designed to give protection at sea, the outer cages represent the wooden bones of a galleon ship. The fish-boned plastic corset is a play on destruction and devastation, depicting a plastic waste graveyard. This creation is inspired by Gothic and Steampunk art, and designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Tim Burton.

MATERIALS/TECHNIQUES Melted and manipulated plastic garbage bags, poop bags, bbq skewers, feathers and wire.
