ARTIST STATEMENT This piece references my experience of primary school. The pencils are used to redraw the childhood experience, to take away the frustration and disappointment of not meeting grades or expectations, and instead embrace imagination, expression and colour. The shape is loosely based on that of a stick insect–or child’s drawing of one–and also references clothing of the past.

MATERIALS/TECHNIQUES Donated coloured pencils, linen thread, cotton lining, mesh tape. Beading onto fabric–the pencils have been cut, drilled and placed according to colour and value.
